Bar open from 06:30 pm. Film starts at 07:30 pm

Sea-Change Sailing Trust seachangesailingtrust.org.uk is a charity taking young people and vulnerable adults on residential voyages aboard our Thames sailing barge Blue Mermaid. The purpose of the voyages is to help develop essential life-skills that will benefit our clients in their shore lives.

This year we have teamed up with the makers of the feature-length arts film 'Wind, Tide& Oar' Wind, Tide and Oar (encounters with engineless sailing) a film by Huw Wahl (windtideandoar.com) to take the film on tour under sail in the barge. The film will premier at Cutty Sark on April 23rd. Blue Mermaid will then undertake a ten week tour of ports of the east coast, with our usual beneficiaries crewing the barge between voyages, and when in port we will open up the hold of the barge to members of the public to come aboard and watch the film.

Details of the Sea Tour, and how to book for Benfleet Yacht Club can be found at:

This tour has been made possible by funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, but because Blue Mermaid is not fully accessible, we are offering two shore based accessible venues as part of the tour. Benfleet Yacht Club is one of the hosts (the other is Royal Harwich Yacht Club). The film will be shown at BYC on Friday May 24th starting at 7.30pm. The Dowsing Room bar will be open beforehand from 6.30pm and again after the film the Club Bar will be open to members as usual.

Members & guests will have the opportunity to see the film free of charge, but seats must be pre- booked. The film runs for just under 1.5 hours, and the film makers have allowed time for any questions about choosing to sail engineless in the modern world, following the film. There will also be a representative from the Sea-Change Sailing Trust present to answer any questions about their activities. .

Whilst it is free to view, seating is strictly limited so the makers of 'Wind, Tide & Oar' ask that people book their free tickets in advance from https://www.windtideandoar.com/event-details/canvey-island-accessible-screening to ensure we are not over capacity on the day.
