BYC Coastal Rowers "Round Canvey Race"
Results of past Round Canvey Race events, plus various race related documents can be downloaded from the bottom of this page
Overview:
This annual 'open' event was established in 2010 and attracts both rowing and sailing vessels, undertaking a complete circuit of Canvey Island: a distance of 14 ½ miles. Mostly with the tide. 4 tidal barrages and bridges to go under (sailing boat masts to come down).
An eclectic mix of vessels have competed to date: fixed seat and sliding seat row boats, surf ski's, kayaks, outrigger canoes and a variety of sailing dinghies.
The time record to-date is just 1 hour 44 minutes: making an average speed of 7.2 knots. Boats from as far away as Whitby have travelled to compete in this event, with the majority of the visiting competitors camping in BYC overnight, enjoying an evening BBQ meal and social. Our bar will be open throughout the event.
