An overview of "Combined Cruiser Series" (CCS) racing
Benfleet Yacht Club hold five cruiser races throughout the season in conjunction with other local yacht clubs:
Members from other local yacht club's are also welcome to compete.
The 'CCS' races are as follows:
- Race to Queenborough - organised by BYC
- Race to the River Blackwater - organised by Essex YC
- Race to Harty Ferry - organised by Leigh SC
- Boatacs Trophy to Stangate Creek - organised by Essex YC
- Race to Upnor - organised by Island YC
For each of the races, there are three classes of boats:
- Monohull Cruisers - Fast Handicap
- Monohull Cruisers - Slow Handicap
As you will see from the above list of races, they are all port-to-port events, with four out of the five finishing at a venue with a pub, yacht club or restaurant, providing a good evening social. Therefore, if you are planning to "cruise" to one of the above destinations, then why not join in with the racing fleet?
Our entries consist of an eclectic mixture of boats; both monohull and multihull, ranging from a barge yacht through to a high speed trimaran. However, most of the boats competing are your average run-of-the-mill family cruising yacht, often sailed just by couples.
If you look through past years results, you will see that the larger faster boats do not get their own way. More often than not, its the smaller bilge keel yachts taking the top places. Our handicapping system aims to give everyone a fair chance.
Entry forms are sent out via email in advance of each race, or can be downloaded from the Benfleet Yacht Club website.
